College Scholarship Money
if i fail a class in college, will i have to pay my scholarship money back?
i received to provost scholarship to go to ASU. its a 7500 dollar scholarship renewable for 4 years. im endanger of failing a class. for this scholarship i have to maintain a high GPA. failing this class would put me below that GPA. would i have to pay that money back if i don’t meet te requirements?
There are two possibilities:
1) You will be put on scholarship probation (this is most likely to happen only if you are a freshman). In this scenario, you keep your scholarship in the spring but must bring up your GPA or lose it after the spring.
2) You will lose your scholarship (there may be an appeals process, but don’t count on it – it might require more stringent requirements than the scholarship)
You will absolutely not have to pay the money that your scholarship covered for the fall semester.
Question: If you withdraw, do you lose the amount of required credits? If you need as many credits as you’re taking, then just study, study, study! If you can afford to withdraw without dropping below the required number of credits, look into that. It would be better to withdraw than to lose your scholarship.
Another option to look into would to get an incomplete and get extra time to complete the coursework. You should find out if that would violate the terms of your scholarship (in my experience, it shouldn’t) and then discuss the possibility with your professor (who must agree to it).
In the meantime study your butt off, get a tutor, and go to office hours. Don’t be afraid to email your professor for help. Do everything you can to bring your grade up. If any extra credit is offered, do it.
