What are the project categories?
The challenge invites projects from the following sectors:

SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Open to all students and teachers of secondary schools within the GCC countries. Awards will be presented for Best Student Project and Best Teacher Project.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
Open to all students and teachers of Colleges and Universities within the GCC countries. Awards will be presented for Best Student Project and Best Teacher Project.

MOBILE APPLICATIONS
Open to students and teachers to develop a mobile phone application. This category is sponsored by TRA. Awards will be presented for Best Project.

E-COMMERCE (includes E-business and E-Portfolios)
Open to students and teachers of secondary schools, colleges and universities within the GCC countries, but restricted to e-commerce/e-business/e-portfolio projects. Projects should be about doing business electronically on the WWW.
Awards will be presented for Best Project.

COMMERCIAL/ORGANIZATIONAL
Entry is restricted to large scale projects from schools, colleges, Universities, commercial organizations and government departments within the GCC countries. Projects must have an educational focus using IT in the classroom to improve teaching. Projects must be developed within the GCC countries. Awards will be presented for Best Project.

UAE NATIONALS
Entry is restricted to UAE National teachers and students. A UAE National can also enter other categories. Awards will be presented for Best Student Project and Best Teacher Project.

What is an E-Commerce project?
An ecommerce project is about doing business on the WWW.

What is an commercial/organizational project?
An organizational project is a large scale project that is done by a large team of people from a school, college, university or business. Examples are

  • conferences and seminars
  • strategic technology initiatives such as laptops for students and classroom smart boards
  • school and college web sites, intranets and portals
  • Educational software, administration systems
The project must be about using technology to improve teaching in the classroom, and must be developed within the GCC countries. Commercially available products are not eligible.

Is my project eligible for a UAE National award?
If the majority of the work has been done by UAE National(s), then the project is also eligible for entry as a UAE National award. This award can only be presented to a UAE National. UAE Nationals must be resident in and attending either a college or University in a GCC country.
