Who can enter a project?

  • any teacher(s), student(s), secondary school, college or university in the GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE)
  • The project must be in use (or being piloted) and involve the use of information technology in education.

To enter projects, teachers and students must be registered at a school, college or University within the GCC countries.

Projects which are previous winners of the UAE IT Challenge cannot be entered again.

Who can enter Organizational Projects?
An organizational project can be entered by a group teachers, school, college, University, Government department or private institution.

  • The project must have an educational focus
  • The project must have been developed within the GCC countries
  • Commercially available products are not eligible.

When is the deadline for entering projects?

  • The deadline for entries is 3pm, Jan 31st 2008
  • No late entries will be accepted after the closing date.
  • The completed entry form and supplemental documentation supporting the project must be received by close of business on the closing date.

When must the project be operational?
The project should have been operational or in use during the award year, namely March 2007 to April 2008. You can start the project planning now, but it must be in use and available for the judging panel to view by the project closing date. Existing projects can be entered.

What should projects be about?
Projects should be primarily concerned with the use of IT in the classroom. It is expected that projects may be web-sites, curriculum development, multimedia CD-ROM's, training materials, students projects, but all with the emphasis of being used in education. However, the classroom does not need to be a physical one, it could be virtual such as an online class or e-learning.

Can I enter more than one category?
Projects can only be entered in one category. The project authors must decide which category to submit their project. A student project is primarily done by a student or group of students. A teacher project is primarily done by a teacher or group of teachers. An institution project is primarily done by an institution (it is considered to be a strategic initiative of the organisation and funded as such).

If you are a UAE NATIONAL, you will be automatically entered into the UAE National category.

Is my project eligible for a UAE National award?
If the majority of the work has been done by UAE National(s), then the project is also eligible for entry as a UAE National award. This award can only be presented to a UAE National. There are a total of 3 UAE National awards. To qualify, UAE Nationals must be attending a school, college or University within the UAE or GCC countries.

Judging Decisions
The decisions of the judging panel is final. The judging panel may, at their discretion, decide to announce joint winners in a category, or select a number of projects for special recognition. No correspondence will be entered into with any of the project authors.

There will be no contact between the judging panel and project authors.

Finalists in each category will be announced prior to the award ceremony. Winners will be announced during the award ceremony.

If I won previously can I re-enter?
Projects that do not win can be re-entered, providing the project meets the entry criteria. Winners cannot re-enter the same project, but are free to enter new projects.
