Pressrelease

Stockholm, Sweden (October 20, 2004). The Stockholm Challenge Award, pioneer among global ICT competitions, has opened its 2006 edition. Innovative teams from all over the world, who use ICT to improve living conditions and economic growth, are now invited to register their projects in the Challenge. Projects compete in six categories and the winners will receive the prestigious Challenge trophies at a beautiful event in the Stockholm City Hall, venue of the Nobel Prize ceremonies, in May 2006.

The Stockholm Challenge has run the award on a global basis since 1997, collecting over 3.000 projects in the Challenge database. About 600 of them, covering areas such as telemedicine, education, public administration, environment, culture and economic development have been selected for their excellence by an international jury of experts.
All finalists are invited to Stockholm to exhibit their work, get new international contacts and to receive their prizes.

Some of the world´s most skilled ICT entrepreneurs
meet in the Stockholm Challenge. With the award the Stockholm Challenge becomes a world leader in the mapping of excellent ICT projects for social and economical development. The project data base offers a valuable source for case studies, research and knowledge building. The focus is on helping to bridge the digital divide by running a networking program and a partner match making service for all who are involved in the Stockholm Challenge.

The Stockholm Challenge has expanded its base and is now headquartered at the IT University - a joint initiative by KTH (The Royal Institute of Technology) and Stockholm University. It is managed by a consortium that also includes the City of Stockholm, Ericsson and Sida, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
