1. Finalists announced
On April 14th at Knowledge Village, Dr Abdulla Al Karam, Chairman of the Judging Panel and Director of Knowledge Village announced the 50 finalists of the UAE Educational IT Challenge 2004.

These finalists will be invited to display their projects at Jumeriah Beach Conference Center on April 25th, and to attend the award ceremony and gala dinner that evening.

Winners will be announced during the award ceremony on April 25th.

2. Al Tomooh Small Business Finance Partner
On April 19th Al Tomooh announced that projects from UAE Nationals would be eligible to apply for Small Business Finance from Al Tomooh. The aim of this finance is to help the commercialization of projects. Al Tomooh staff will be available at the project exhibition on April 15th to talk to UAE Nationals and assist them in applying for funding.

3. Finalists and winners to receive
The 2004 UAE IT Challenge is about finding, promoting and rewarding the best innovative ideas in the UAE. This year we will be presenting all finalists and winners with trophies. In addition to showcasing the best projects on April 25th, the award ceremony and gala dinner, every finalist and winner will receive the following

- Finalist / Winner Certificate in presentation folder
- Silver commenatorive coin by Damas
- Special gift pack from Royal Sweets

Project winners will receive

- Trophy
- Prizes (Nokia n-Gage for students, Anextek Pocket PC for teachers,
   One Acer Laptop for Organizational)

In addition, each winning project will qualify for ONE invitation to attend the Global Stockholm Challenge to be held in Stockholm, Sweden on May 11-13th. The invitation includes return airfare (ex Dubai) and accomodation, cultural visits, viewing of finalist projects and attendance to the award ceremony in the Nobel Hall. If the finalist project is a team project, then the team members will need to nominate ONE person from the team to travel to Stockholm who will represent their project. This annual event will showcase leading IT projects from around the world on May 10/11 with the award ceremony to be held on May 13th in the Nobel Hall, Stockholm.


4. Preparations for April 25th Event Day
Planning has been underway for some time now for the event day of April 25th. Finalists will be invited to showcase their projects, and we are inviting students and teachers throughout the UAE to come along and view the projects and meet the finalists.

Belinda Palubiski has been appointed as Bussing Coordinator for the event day, and will manage the thousands of visitors expected to attend the project exhibition. If you are a teacher or student and wish to bring a group along, please contact Belinda at belinda.palubiski@hct.ac.ae for more information and suggested timings.

Entrance is free, and we will be giving away several interesting prizes as well for those that attend.


5. Jumeirah Beach Hotel Competition - Winners!
The Jumeirah Beach Hotel (JBH) kindly presented the IT Challenge with TWO vouchers for dinner (2 persons) and soft drinks at one of its restuarants. During the last three newsletters we ran a competition, and this morning, Gary Johnson of the iT challenge drew the two lucky winners. A large number of entries were received, and the two lucky winners are,
